1. Some Myths & Facts about suicide

It’s often difficult to imagine what led anyone to commit or attempt suicide… let me share some myths and facts

Myth 1) – If someone is determined to kill themselves, nothing is going to stop them.

FACT – Even a severely depressed person has mixed feelings about death, fluctuating between wanting to live & wanting to die. Rather, they actually only want to stop the pain they are going through & thus the impulse to end their life doesn’t actually last forever.

Myth 2) – People who talk about suicide won’t really do it.

FACT – Almost everyone who attempt has given some clue or warning. Don’t ignore even indirect references to death.

Myth3) – People who have commit suicide are people who were unwilling to seek help

FACT – Studies indicate that more than 50% of suicide victims had sought medical help in 6 months prior to their death.

Myth 4) – Talking about suicide may give someone the idea of committing suicide.

FACT – Rather, talking openly & honestly about suicidal thoughts & feelings can save a life.

2. Signs that a child needs counselling

Kids and teens need therapy when they have problem, they can’t cope with alone or share with anyone.

Elders should pay attention to the child’s feeling of hopelessness or sadness, lack of interest in activities once considered enjoyable or behaviors that are dangerous to the child himself or to others.

Other signs could be extreme anger and temper tantrums, constantly fidgets and/or has difficulty staying seated, extreme drop in academic grades and preoccupation with body image.

3. How to manage any relationship

The moment you try to manage any relationship, the chances of them getting compromised is higher & that could lead to disappointment & heartbreak. Try not manage, rather enjoy being in a relationship.

Communicate without compromising on your personality or your character. Be a little more understanding than the other & little more accepting the person with their flaws.

4. Connection between Substance abuse & Mental health

Sometimes substance abuse & mental health go hand in hand & when this happens it has detrimental effects like: -Misuse of alcohol and drugs can make it difficult for someone to recover from mental illness.

Drugs can cause psychosis & schizophrenia. Chemical drugs can cause depression, anxiety & sleeplessness. Continuous use of drugs can lead to depression, paranoia & anxiety.

When this happens, its termed as co-occurring disorder or dual diagnosis.

5. Psychology of manifestation

Using our thoughts, feelings and beliefs and bringing something to our physical reality through attraction is manifestation.

Similarly affirmations have the power to motivate you to act on certain things & help you concentrate on achieving your goals.

When you use it correctly, this power manifests in your life, the things you want.

6. Manage your mind

When fear or self-doubt or anxiety creeps in, do some work on your mental health which includes emotional, psychological and social well-being.

Some real & effective ways of dealing with mental health conditions like depression and anxiety are :

  • Staying active & getting physical exercise
  • Sleep better, eat healthy, stay hydrated and rest up
  • Avoid unhealthy coping mechanism
  • Stay connected and step out more
  • If nothing works, speak to your trusted source or seek professional help
